This tree behind me looked like it was not going to have any chance of survival after a fire ravaged through it. A great friend told me to give my trees 5 full seasons from the fire to recover. We’re on year 3, and it’s coming back really well.
Made me think. How often are we ravaged and have some kind of high self expectation to be ‘fine’ immediately after? Why don’t we give ourselves time to heal?
We need to remember that some of us have gone through hell to get where we are. We are broken. We are hurt. But yet we have an expectation of self that we are supposed to have it all together.
It’s ok to be broken. It’s ok to be mad at God. It’s ok to ask for help. I have had people in my life who have been my angel. I have played angel for others who needed me. We need to remember it’s ok to not be ok. It may take years to get to the point of OK… especially if you’re coming from a place of addiction, abuse or neglect. And if you know someone struggling, let them know it’s ok. Give them time to heal. Don’t just cut down the tree because it’s damaged- rather see what God can do with it in given time.
Remember everyone has their own journey they are on. It’s different from yours. So- as always- be kind
